The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights documented the death of 440 people in August 2023. The fatalities were
distributed as follows:
Civilian death toll: 164 persons, including 34 children under the age of 18 and 14 women over the age of 18, and they were as follows:
- Eight civilians died under torture in regime prisons.
- 33 civilians, including a woman and five children, were killed in infightings and indiscriminate gunfire.
- Five civilians, including a child and two women, were killed by opposition factions and jihadists.
- Six civilians, including a woman, were killed in unknown circumstances.
- 19 civilians, including 13 children and three women, were killed in explosions of old ordnance.
- 16 civilians, including five children, were killed in bombardment and gunfire by regime forces.
- Three civilians were executed.
- 24 civilians, including four women and two children, were murdered.
- One child died of poor health condition.
- Five civilians, including a woman and a child, were killed in Russian airstrikes.
- Two civilians died under torture in prisons of factions.
- Six civilians were killed by ISIS members.
- Four civilians, including two children and a woman, were killed in Turkish bombardment.
- Six civilians were killed by Turkish Jandarma.
- Five civilians, including two children, were killed by landmine and IED explosions.
- 11 civilians were shot dead by unidentified persons.
- Four civilians were killed by SDF.
- Five civilians, including a woman and two children, were killed in other circumstances.

We, at the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, call on the international community once again to work hard to stop the bloodshed in Syria. The people of Syria have been facing tyranny and oppression in their noble endeavour and cause to obtain justice, democracy, freedom and equality.
The Syrian Observatory renews its commitment to continue monitoring and documenting all the developments on the ground in Syria including, the massacres, violations, war crimes and crimes against humanity committed against the Syrian people, as well as publishing all relevant statistics and causalities of such heinous acts, and hope to help all the ongoing efforts of bringing the perpetrators to special international courts, so that they do not escape justice for the crimes they committed against the people of Syria. — Syrian Observatory for Human Rights
